Police: Truck driver arrested for DUII after early morning I-5 crash

Posted: Updated:

A truck driver from Oklahoma was arrested on charges including DUII after an early morning crash that shut down Interstate 5 in Portland.

Officers responded to the highway between the on-ramp from westbound Interstate 84 and the Broadway exit at 12:55 a.m. Monday.

Investigators learned the semi driver, identified as 44-year-old Joel Minh Hung Reynolds of Oklahoma, was heading north on I-5 from westbound I-84 when he collided with the center median, crossed over it and slammed into the far right southbound barrier.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

During the investigation, officers said they developed probable cause to arrest Reynolds on charges of DUII-alcohol and reckless driving.

Reynolds was cited to appear in court and released to get medical treatment for a hand injury.

Due to the location and severity of the crash, traffic was rerouted to Interstate 405 for hours. Police said the highway reopened at around 4 a.m. after the truck and trailer were towed from the scene.
