Vancouver City Council halts chronic nuisance property plan

Posted: Updated:
VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Vancouver City Council members put a plan designed to regulate chronic nuisance properties on hold Monday night.

The ordinance would potentially hold businesses and land owners in Vancouver responsible for any unruly or illegal behavior that happens on their property.

City staff said they originally drafted the plan in order to help police with rising problems in the area, specifically in the entertainment district.

Council members put the discussion on hold due to business owners’ complaints that the language of the ordinance was too vague.

Owners believe the city should focus on targeted areas instead of casting a blanket rule over everyone.

The council ultimately agreed with business owners’ concerns and voted to send the plan back to city staff to re-work.
