WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

A man is facing murder charges in connection to a death investigation at an Interstate 5 rest stop in Wilsonville.

Detectives identified the suspect as 37-year-old Michael-Daniel Timothy Stepina.

Emergency crews responded to the French Prairie Rest Area, previously known as the Baldock Rest Area, on southbound I-5 near Milepost 282 at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

They located 55-year-old Timothy Way of Beavercreek suffering from traumatic injuries. Medics were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said a person of interest was identified Monday night and interviewed by detectives. On Tuesday, deputies said the case was a homicide and Stepina was arrested and booked in the Clackamas County Jail.

No other details, including a possible motive, were released by Oregon State Police.

OSP is continuing this investigation and is being assisted by Clackamas County District Attorney's Office, Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon City Police Department, and Milwaukie Police Department.
