PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A bank robbery suspect was arrested after an FBI agent spotted him in a coffee shop and recognized him from surveillance images.

Timmie Lee Smith, 58, was arrested Tuesday. He is accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank at 1900 S.W. 5th Ave. on Oct. 7 and then another one at 900 S.W. 5th Ave. on Monday.

In both robberies, investigators said he approached the teller desk, demanded money and got away with cash.

An FBI agent familiar with the cases spotted Smith at a coffee shop in the Cascade Station shopping area, just a few blocks from the FBI office Tuesday.

The FBI said the agent working the investigations into those bank robberies arrived and approached Smith. The agents took him into custody without incident.

Smith appeared in court Wednesday and was ordered to be kept in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 2.
