PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A woman visiting Portland from Los Angeles was pulled over for making an illegal lane change and then arrested after one kilogram of cocaine and $200,000 cash were found hidden in her van, according to court documents.

Maribel Padilla, 44, was stopped by Portland police at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 5 southbound near the Marquam Bridge.

A probable cause affidavit states officers received consent to search the 2009 Dodge Journey van with a K-9. Officers said they became suspicious Padilla was involved in trafficking drugs.

Portland police K-9 Lola alerted to the presence of drugs in the driver side floorboard area near the hood release latch of the van.

The search revealed 23 wrapped bindles of cash totaling $204,735 in hidden compartments in the front wheel well area on both the driver and passenger side of the van, according to court documents.

An affidavit states one kilogram of cocaine was also recovered from the driver side hidden compartment. Police said the cocaine has a street value of $30,000.

Padilla told police she lives in Los Angeles and was visiting the area, according to court documents, but she has no ties to Portland.

Padilla was arraigned in court this week on charges of delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine and laundering a monetary instrument. Her bail was set at $1.5 million and she is due back in court Oct. 22.
