TriMet gives sneak peek of new hybrid buses

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

TriMet on Thursday gave a sneak peek of one of its four new all-electric hybrid buses.

The new buses will join four other diesel electric hybrids on TriMet’s Killingsworth/82nd Avenue line in November, bringing the total of hybrid buses in TriMet’s fleet of 659 to eight.

A TriMet spokesman said the new hybrids – which use technology similar to a Toyota Prius – are designed to use less fuel and produce less emissions.

The buses cost $705,000 each and were paid for in part by a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration’s Clean Fuels Program.

TriMet posted more information about the new hybrid buses on its website.
