WOOD VILLAGE, OR (KPTV) -

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde has made a deal to purchase the Multnomah Greyhound Park in Wood Village.

This deal is part of a plan for the Tribe to develop a more diverse economic base.

"Economic diversification has always been a priority for our Tribe and our membership," said Tribal Chairman Reyn Leno. "We have worked hard since our Tribe was restored to become self-sufficient, and to provide essential programs for our citizens. Striving toward a diversified economy is an objective that helps us prepare for the future."

According to the release, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde has reached out to the city, neighboring municipalities, and the surrounding community regarding the potential uses of the property.

“It’s nice to know that Multnomah Greyhound Park will have a new life under Tribal ownership. While we cannot rule anything out in terms of the future gaming in Oregon, our priority at this time is to develop this property in a manner that diversifies our investment holdings, said Leno.

The Multnomah Greyhound Park is located within the historic homelands of the Cascade and Clackamas Chinook tribes.

Grand Ronde’s prior investments in Multnomah County include projects such as The Gregory Lofts, Russellville Commons, and a commercial office building on Barbur Boulevard.
