PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed in the parking lot behind Dante's in downtown Portland late Sunday night.

The victim was identified Monday as Dion Matthews Jr. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that he died of a gunshot wound.

Emergency crews responded to Southwest 3rd and Burnside at 11:15 p.m. Witnesses described seeing people running from the area and vehicles leaving the scene after the shooting.

Detectives said they have very little information to go on in this case and need help from the public.

Information learned from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should be shared with investigators as these tips may lead to the identification of a suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rico Beniga at 503-823-0457, rico.beniga@portlandoregon.gov; or Detective Mark Sponhauer at 503-823-0416, mark.sponhauer@portlandoregon.gov.

Police confirmed that the victim's father, Dion Matthews Sr., was stabbed and killed outside the Village Garden Apartments on Northeast Sandy Boulevard in July 2012.

In April of this year, Michael Leonard pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted robbery in that case and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
