CHILOQUIN, OR (KTPV) -

A driver attempting to pass slower traffic on Highway 97 lost control of his 1969 Chevrolet Corvette, left the roadway and rolled the car multiple times, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers said Robert Johnson, 64, of Bend, was thrown from his car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to the highway near milepost 230, about 20 miles north of Chiloquin in Klamath County, at 4:42 p.m. Sunday.

Police said speed is being considered a contributing factor of the crash.

Highway 97 was shut down for 30 minutes and reduced to one lane for several hours while investigators were at the scene.
