PBOT results show huge use of services like Uber, Lyft in four-month test

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The results are in, and after over a million rides the Portland Bureau of Transportation said Portlanders are using services like Uber and Lyft more and taxi services less.

PBOT released the results of this four-month trial Monday, and it's good news for the transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft.

During the test period taxis and transportation network companies provided over a million rides to customers.

Overall ridership in the Portland market increased by 40 percent from the start of May to the end of August, which means more people are choosing to get a ride instead of drive.

In those four months, use of transportation network companies were up a stunning 125 percent, while taxi ridership was down 16 percent.

According to PBOT, people didn't historically use taxis and transportation network companies much to travel to neighborhoods in northeast and southeast Portland.

That changed dramatically this summer, though, as rides to east Portland were up 50 percent.

The city will now use this data to figure out how they are going to move forward with regulations for taxis and these popular transportation network companies.
