FELIDA, WA -

A man has been taken to the hospital after being struck by a train near Felida in Washington Tuesday morning.

A spokesman from BNSF Railway said the accident happened around 7:30 a.m when a trespasser was struck by a Union Pacific train heading north on the BNSF tracks.

BNSF said train lines are currently being held but the lines should be back up and running by 10 a.m. This affects Amtrak lines as well.

Railway officials said four freight trains are being held. Sixty trains run on these lines each day.

Union Pacific and local police are investigating further.

According to BNSF, 21 people have been hit and killed by trains in Washington state this year. This is the second highest death number in 20 years.

Railway officials would like to remind everyone that all railroad property is illegal to access and to stay off of the tracks.
