TILLAMOOK COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A 74-year-old McMinnville man missing for more than four days was found down a steep ravine in the Siuslaw National Forest.

David "Hoss" Hostetler was last seen at 12:30 a.m. Friday leaving the American Legion in McMinnville in his 1992 Honda Accord.

Police said it was unusual for him to not be heard from for an extended period of time. He was also without his medication.

On Monday afternoon, hunters located his car on a forest service road in the Siuslaw National Forest near Borba Road around 50 miles away from his home.

The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office initiated a search Monday, but did not find Hostetler.

Search efforts resumed Tuesday morning with around 50 volunteer searchers from multiple counties and agencies.

Low clouds and fog prevented an air search.

At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, some of Hostetler's personal items were located on a spur road. Soon after, Hostetler was spotted at the bottom of a steep ravine.

Investigators said it appeared he had fallen the day before.

Hostetler was alive, but described as being in need of medical attention. He was rescued from the ravine and flown to a Salem hospital for treatment.

An update on his condition was not immediate available.
