Sheriff: Woman on meth stole bolt cutters, fought with deputies before arrest

Posted: Updated:

A woman believed to be on meth stole bolt cutters from a store, walked into the middle of highway traffic and then fought with deputies who were called to the scene, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The incident began at 7 a.m. Wednesday on reports of a woman who went into a spa building business on the 13000 block of Wilco Highway Northeast near Mount Angel, caused a disturbance and then stole a pair of bolt cutters.

Witnesses said the woman then walked into the middle of Wilco Highway and was nearly struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Deputies arrived and found the woman inside a tent on a neighboring property.

Two deputies informed the woman she was under arrest, according to the sheriff's office, but when they attempted to put her in handcuffs, she began pulling away and kicking at them.

Investigators said the situation escalated when around seven other people exited their tents and RVs and began surrounding the deputies and shouting at them.

The deputies requested additional cover and officers from Mount Angel, Woodburn and Silverton all responded.

The sheriff's office said the nine officers and deputies at the scene were able to calm the crowd down and take the woman into custody.

No injuries were reported to anyone involved.

Amber Danielson, 25, initially refused to provide her name to deputies. She was identified and booked in the Marion County Jail on charges of theft, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.

"The professionalism and restraint the deputies exhibited during this very tense situation is a credit to them individually, their training and ability to react appropriately to a person whose state of mind is being drastically affected by illegal drugs," said Eric Hlad, sheriff's office commander.
