PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It was a wild ride through a Portland neighborhood, as a furniture delivery truck rolled down a steep hill, hit a transformer and slammed into the side of a house before it came to a rest at the bottom of an embankment.

“It was like a runaway train or something,” Paul Coakley told Fox 12.

Coakley was having a file cabinet delivered to his home on SE 145th Court off SE Nehalem Court – a steep street on the edge of Happy Valley.

He was outside watching two men start to unload the truck, when it started moving.

“All of a sudden, the truck just started rolling.  It rolled into the yard next to me, rolled into the yard next to the house there,” he said, pointing.

The box truck took out a transformer, knocking out power to most of the neighborhood, and kept rolling down the hill passing half a dozen homes, before slamming into the side of a house and ending up deep in the brush behind it – all without anyone behind the wheel.

“The one guy in the back of the truck, he was just bouncing up and down with the furniture,” Coakley added.

“The power went out and I looked out my window and saw leaves and branches flying and I came running upstairs,” Troy Posey told Fox 12.
Posey lives next door to the home that was damaged and came outside to try and help.

“Those guys down there were crawling out,” Posey said.  “They were concerned about the damage and I was telling them they were lucky to be alive.”

The truck belongs to “K & K Deliveries, Inc.”

Neighbors say the delivery men had some bumps and scrapes, but amazingly, nobody was seriously hurt.

The home that was hit may have a damaged foundation, and neighbors said the family living there decided to stay somewhere else for the night.

“I feel pretty lucky, really lucky,” Posey added.  “I’ll be definitely saying a prayer tonight.”
