Overnight camping law now in effect in Vancouver

Posted: Updated:

People can now camp overnight almost anywhere within Vancouver city limits.

The city created a new ordinance back in September that threw out making camping in a public place a misdemeanor.

People can camp on most publicly owned property. However officials say belongings cannot be left out on streets or sidewalks between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The ordinance does not include public parks.

City staffers said that the city council recognizes this as an interim fix.
