State formally declares end to fire season in Central Oregon

Posted: Updated:
BEND, OR (AP) -

The Oregon Department of Forestry says fire season is officially over in the Central Oregon District.

The department says in a news release that the action comes as a result of recent rain and cool, moist weather in the forecast.

The Bend Bulletin reports that the Forestry Department and local fire departments will start allowing open outside burning. Permits may be required and some restrictions may still apply.

Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District No. 2 plans to allow debris burning starting at sunrise Saturday. The district covers 252 square miles around Bend.
