PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A strange but expensive theft in Portland has left one business without its $400 fish.

Brandon Bacod, a manager at The Wet Spot Tropical Fish at Northeast 43rd and Hancock Street, said a puffer fish that they’ve only had for a couple of weeks was stolen from his store late last week.

Bacod says it was during one of the busiest times of the week.

“Especially on Fridays, we can be very busy. There were six or eight different groups of people in so there weren’t enough associates to watch everybody,” he said.

Bacod said it’s not just the price of the fish that makes it so valuable, it’s how few of them come to the states.

“It was a very rare puffer, of the ones that are imported from Africa probably one or two a year, this one was one of them," he said.

Bacod said they don't have any leads yet and the store's surveillance cameras did not catch the thief in the act.

Employees said they are hopeful the fish will be returned, as it's a very sensitive fish that needs proper care.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Portland Police Bureau.
