ASTORIA, OR (AP) -

A 19-year-old Astoria man faces a variety of charges after he allegedly shot a deer inside the city limits.

Astoria police responded to a report of a gunshot and found a dead buck in the bed of a truck. James Lee Ogier told officers that he'd struck the deer with his vehicle, but officers later determined that he'd shot and gutted it. Police say he was intoxicated.

Authorities say the backdrop for the gunshot was a nearby apartment complex.

The Daily Astorian reports that the man faces charges of drunken driving, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a firearm. Police say additional charges could be added related to the illegal taking of an animal.

The deer was seized by Oregon State Police and donated to the local food bank.
