ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -

A Broadway cab driver crashed into a gas station store in Aloha early Wednesday after a confrontation with a rider.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. at the Chevron station on Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway near 185th Avenue, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The cab driver told deputies he drove a fare from downtown Portland and stopped in front of the Chevron Extra Mile store. He said his customer tried to pay for his ride with cash and some marijuana instead of the full fare, and that the customer wanted him to drive a different location and threatened to hurt him if he did not.

Deputies said after the rider threatened the driver, the rider bailed out of the cab as the driver was calling 911. The driver then accidentally accelerated, crashing the cab into the store.

A Beaverton police K-9 assisted deputies in searching for the rider, who was not immediately located. He was described as a Latino man who was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and wearing a black jacket.

Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call (503) 629-0111.
