MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

A house littered with mountains of garbage and piles of drug paraphernalia is finally getting cleaned up in the Milwaukie area thanks to a community effort.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office nuisance program brought in a backhoe and dumpsters Thursday morning to deal with the house that neighbors say has been a home to squatters and drug dealers for years.

Deputies said the abandoned home on the 14600 block of Southeast Cedar Avenue had "a plethora of other problems" including solid waste issues.

A man who runs a daycare across the street said a group of neighbors had wanted to go in and clean the place out after it was finally boarded up, but it was just too dangerous.

Thursday's cleanup efforts included assistance by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas County code enforcement, Oak Lodge Sanitary District, county counsel and neighbors.

The sheriff's office said it's one of many sites in the county identified as neighborhood nuisances.

Anyone with a home in their neighborhood that might fall under Clackamas County's nuisance ordinance is asked to report it to the sheriff's office at 503-785-5000 or the county's code enforcement office at 503-742-4452.
