PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A stolen, rare puffer fish has been returned to a northeast Portland store after it was found in a pickle jar.

The fish was taken from Wet Spot Tropical Fish last week. It was imported from Africa, and is worth $400.

But Thursday morning the store received an anonymous phone call that the fish was in a nearby Grocery Outlet parking lot, where store staff found the exotic fish there inside a pickle jar.

Brandon Bacod, who works at the shop, said the store staff didn't think they would ever see the fish again.

"We're just happy that it’s been returned. It seems to be in good shape, no worse the wear,” he said. “He's just acclimating in his tank and we're delighted to have him back."

Bacod also said would have taken the store several years to get another puffer fish, because they're so rare.

The store shared the news of the returned fish, now named Ransom, on their Facebook page with a video to show him well and swimming.
