A prowler was caught on camera casing a home in Lake Oswego, only to discover that the homeowner was just feet away from him.

This happened on Tuesday evening off of Boones Ferry Road and Knaus Street, just a few blocks away from the Street of Dreams.

The homeowner told FOX 12 his dog and his security system helped catch a possible thief before he could make his move.

"I saw the silhouette of a man, right in one of my cameras. So I turned and then right here, made eye contact with him," said Kevin.

The homeowner, who only wants to be known as Kevin, said it was around 5 p.m. when he was home with his dog and almost two-year-old daughter when the dog started barking.

He checked the surveillance cameras and that's when he saw the man on his back patio, talking on a cell phone.

In the surveillance video, it shows the moment when Kevin turned around and locked eyes with the man and then the man got spooked and ran away.

Kevin ran after him for a few seconds to make sure he was off his property and then he called the police.

"I think we were both in shock. He was in shock that I was home and I was in shock that this is happening in Lake Oswego when I'm at home with my kids. My adrenalin was running quite a bit. I was scared because I was worried first that my family would be safe."

Lake Oswego Police took a report on the incident, but the prowler has not been found.

If you recognize the man in the surveillance video, please call Lake Oswego Police.
