PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon Zoo visitors were able to watch elephants demolish, play, and roll around one of the area’s largest pumpkins.

The giant pumpkin used for the annual Squishing of the Squash was 1,100 pounds, and provided by the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers.

The Squishing of the Squash kicked off the zoo’s annual Howloween celebration which is happening Saturday, Oct 31.

On Halloween, Oregon Zoo visitors can watch the enrichment team give animals holiday-themed treats like jack-o’-lanterns stuffed with snacks.

A scavenger hunt for kids directs trick-or-treaters to different activity stations that give info about animals, their habitats, and adaptations.

Kids are able to collect treats and prizes as they visit each station.

Visitors are able to attend the event with regular zoo admission.
