Famous Portland sculpture restored after being knocked down by vandal

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Robert Krueger and expert welders from Art & Design Works and the Regional Arts & Culture Council repaired a famous statue on the corner of SW 6th Avenue and Stark Street in Portland.

Talos No. 2 is a 7 foot tall, 400 pound bronze sculpture that has overlooked the Transit Mall since 1977.

The three month statue restoration process began after it was violently knocked down by a vandal in July.

Repairs included positioning five large broken pieces together, welding, and chemical treatment.

The City of Portland’s Fine Arts Insurance policy paid for a portion of the repair costs, and small gifts by donors helped cover the rest of the restoration cost.
