Portland metro bracing for soggy Halloween weekend

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

People in the metro area are preparing for a big soaking over the weekend as heavy rain is expected.

Gabe Gregg does roof maintenance and repair work for JNR Industries. He’s very busy these days and warns people not to wait too long to address
clogged gutters.

"If you see them spilling over, you want to get that taken care of," he explained. "That can cause flooding in your basement, even foundation damage."

Many parents are preparing for a wet night of trick-or-treating with their children. Gemma Daw’s 11-month-old son Kaleb is about to celebrate his first Halloween.

He’ll have on plenty of layers, but Daw worries about overall safety on the roads.

"He’s learning to walk and I don’t want him to slip," she said. "It’s hard with kid shoes because I’m a first time mom and I don’t know what he should be wearing.”

With close to three inches of rain expected this weekend, Clackamas County officials are asking neighbors to keep an eye on their own storm drains and clear leaves out to prevent flooding.  Leaf pick-up days in Portland also begin on Sunday, according to the city's website.
