Volunteer armed guards patrol Vancouver homeless camp

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Volunteer armed guards are patrolling a homeless camp in Vancouver.

They say they want to protect the homeless women from assault, and deter any other crime in the area.

Their plan is to carry weapons and walk along the downtown Vancouver camp.

Fox 12 asked the city what they thought about the group.

They responded by saying while open carry is allowed in Washington, this is not something they encourage from a safety perspective.

Police say that the area has seen an increase in crimes, but want to remind people to call 911 during emergencies.
