A crash in Linn County near Santiam Pass sent multiple people – two of them children – to the hospital with serious injuries.

Oregon State Police said the collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 20 near milepost 78, two miles west of Hoodoo.

Police say a 2006 Scion, driven by 31-year-old Kara Smith of Redmond, was heading eastbound on Highway 20 when Smith lost control on a sweeping right curve, crossing the center line and into the path of a 2009 Ford Flex wagon heading westbound, driven by 73-year-old Gail Hayes of Salem. The Ford struck the Scion, and both vehicles came to rest in the westbound lanes.

An off-duty trooper stopped at the scene to render aid. Two children inside the Scion and at least two adults were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say at the time of the crash, there was light rain and the highway was wet. The roadway was briefly closed in both directions, and one lane was reopened shortly after the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
