Portland Fire & Rescue arson dog Lila retiring

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

After seven years of helping fire investigators figure out how fires start, Portland Fire & Rescue’s arson dog Lila is retiring.

Lila is specially trained to sniff out liquids that can start fires and is the only arson dog in Oregon. She is turning nine years old and that is the age the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives requires dogs to retire.

In April, Lila and her handler were featured on a FEMA publication for national arson awareness week.

A retirement party celebrating her career will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Skidmore Conference Room at Station 1, located at 55 SW Ash St.
