A good Samaritan was stabbed after checking on a woman who was involved in a fight with a man at the Beaverton Transit Center, according to police.

Beaverton police said a man and woman were involved in a domestic disturbance around 7 a.m. Monday. When a second man approached to see if the woman was OK, police said the two men started fighting.

Police said the man who had initially been fighting with the woman stabbed the second man with a knife.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries initially described as life-threatening, but police later said he is expected to survive. He was identified as 40-year-old Gordon Hackett, a transient from Colorado.

Police took the suspect into custody. Officers said Angel Lopez, 22, is facing charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unauthorized use of a weapon.

The woman was not hurt and was not charged with a crime. Police said Lopez and the woman are both local transients.

Investigators said the man who was stabbed is believed to be a good Samaritan who was checking on the safety of the woman and was not known to her or Lopez.

The Beaverton Transit Center remained open during the investigation.
