Oracle: Oregon's policy on Kitzhaber email is 'delay, denial and destruction'

PORTLAND, OR (AP) -

Oracle Corp., says the state of Oregon is violating public records laws by failing to turn over the contents of email accounts used by former Gov. John Kitzhaber.

In a letter dated Monday, Oracle asks Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum to order the release of relevant emails from Kitzhaber's accounts.

Oregon's chief lawyer, Dorian Daley, says in the letter that Oregon appears to be working on a policy of "delay, denial and destruction," despite Gov. Kate Brown's public commitment to transparency.

The controversy stems from a legal battle between Oracle and the state over the troubled Cover Oregon health insurance website.

Oracle says the state is illegally allowing Kitzhaber's lawyer to decide which emails are subject to public disclosure.

Brown spokeswoman Kristen Grainger says the matter is already in court, and Oracle's letter reflects "lawyers' games."
