SPRINGFIELD, OR (KPTV) -

An Oregon girl bit into a Snickers bar she got from trick-or-treating on Halloween night and felt something sharp.

The 12-year-old Springfield girl quickly pulled the candy bar out of her mouth and found a sewing needle sticking out of the end, according to police.

The girl's mother initially posted the information on Facebook, but did not report it to police until Tuesday after she was encouraged to do so by friends.

Officers responded to the home on the 1200 block of Parker Street on Tuesday and learned the girl who found the needle was trick-or-treating on Halloween with another girl between the 1200 block of Centennial Boulevard and the 500 block of West Centennial Boulevard, a span of more than a mile.

She bit into the Snickers bar the following day.

Police said there is no evidence at this time indicating where the candy came from or who tampered with it.
