A Vancouver man pleaded guilty to driving into a group of trick-or-treaters, killing a young girl.

Family members of the victim gathered in the courtroom on Wednesday, holding pictures of 7-year-old Cadence Boyer.

Cadence died following a crash on Halloween last year and they've been waiting for this day for a full year.

On Wednesday, Duanne Abbott pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Prosecutors said he was high on marijuana when he jumped a curb and crashed into a group of four trick-or-treaters. Cadence died a few days later.

FOX 12 spoke with her parents outside of court. They said Wednesday's development brings some long awaited closure.

"It's long overdue, but this is what we wanted. We wanted him to plead guilty," said Kevin Boyer, Cadence's father.

"We haven't had any answers, and we finally have something to settle this," Cadence's mother, Annie Arnold said.

Abbott will be sentenced later this month.

Cadence's parents are planning to attend the sentencing as well and said it will be a big day for them. It will be their first chance to read a statement in court and address Abbott in person.

The sentencing will take place on Nov. 20.
