WEST LINN, OR (KPTV) -

A car prowler stole a wallet in West Linn and went on a $1,200 shopping spree with the victim's credit cards in the Portland area, according to police.

Police said the suspect entered the car in the Hidden Springs neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

Within hours, police said he had used the credit cards before they could be canceled.

Police released surveillance images of the suspect in a Safeway store Wednesday.

He is described as a white man, 25-35 years old and 5'10" with a medium build. He is driving a late 90s or early 2000s silver BMW Z3 convertible with a black top and stock wheels.

Investigators said the suspect was seen by several people in the West Linn neighborhood looking in cars, but it was not immediately reported to police.

"We really need for people to trust their instincts. If you see someone being suspicious or lurking in your neighborhood please call us. Do not try and reason your suspicion away." Said West Linn Police Chief Terry Timeus.

West Linn police said the suspect is "undoubtedly involved in other crimes in the metro area."

Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact police at 503-655-6214 or mfrancis@westlinnoregon.gov.
