PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters responded to a fire in a southeast Portland apartment complex that was built in 1904.

Crews were called out to the 8800 block of Southeast 9th Avenue in the Sellwood area at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic area of the three-story apartment building.

Firefighters contained the bulk of the fire to the attic space, but the third floor units did suffer smoke and water damage.

Everyone in the building evacuated and no injuries were reported, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by a short in the wiring that dated back to the building's original construction 111 years ago.
