Survey: Less than half of people in Portland satisfied with city services

Posted: Updated:

Only 47 percent of people in Portland felt positive about the city's overall job in providing services in 2015, according to the city auditor's annual survey.

In 1996, that number was 62 percent. The 2015 number is the second lowest rating in the last 20 years.

The survey is conducted to gauge public opinion on city services.

According to the report, more people noted an increase in residential and commercial development in their neighborhoods, while also rating housing as being less affordable than five years ago.

Police, sewers and storm drainage showed improvement in positive ratings, while planning and street maintenance showed significant drops in approval.

In 2015, 63 percent of people surveyed said they were satisfied with the Portland Police Bureau, up from 59 percent in 2011.

Some services like fire, parks, 911, recreation, housing inspections and water showed no significant changes from five years ago.
