PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton was in Portland on Thursday to speak with a group of middle schoolers and to promote her new book.

A large crowd of people gathered at Powell's Books in downtown Portland Thursday evening. Chelsea was there to speak about her new book "It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going."

Chelsea's mission with the book is to improve global health and wellness, give women and girls more opportunities, reduce childhood obesity, and help communities to address climate change.

Powell's wasn't Chelsea's only stop in Portland.

Earlier in the day, Chelsea stopped by Mount Tabor Middle School.

Students at Mount Tabor Middle School got to see the more than 400 page book that shares facts, photos and stories that give young readers an understanding of the world around them, and how they can make a difference.

"I talked to a lot of kids throughout the process and I asked kids to read various drafts because I wanted "It's Your World" to be both accessible to kids but I also wanted it to be creditable," said Chelsea Clinton. "I remember a lot about middle school. I think it is an important time in so many kids lives. I also remember the awkwardness that was so inevitable in middle school but thankfully I always had great friends."

Chelsea said that she always had the idea to write a book like this but when she found out she was pregnant and gave birth to her daughter Charlotte, she knew she had to write it.
