A man who pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and DUII for a crash that killed a passenger in his SUV was sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Wesley Hastings, 42, pleaded guilty in October and was sentenced Friday.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Manning Road Northeast and Deconinck Road Northeast near Woodburn the evening of June 19.

Officers arrived to find an SUV that had rolled over.

Investigators said Hastings was driving north on Manning Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The SUV left the roadway and rolled over.

A passenger was thrown from the SUV and killed instantly, according to police.

Hastings was taken to the hospital for treatment before he was booked in jail.

He was sentenced Friday to 7 and a half years in prison for Manslaughter and one year on the DUII charge. He was also sentenced to nearly three years post-prison supervision.
