Police: Head-on crash on Hwy 101 kills one, injures three

DOUGLAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police responded to a crash on Highway 101 near milepost 217, 4 miles south of Reedsport around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling north on Highway 101, when it crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on into a 2000 Chevy Silverado going southbound.

According to police, one passenger of the Chevy Silverado, Heather Walseth, 40, of Evans Washington died from her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevy, Kelly Dennison, 43, of Buckley Washington was treated and released from a local hospital.

The second passenger in the Chevy, Donald Dennison, 67, of Mount Angel was transferred to a Springfield hospital.

The driver of the Mercury, Julie Bowen, 32, of Reedsport was also transferred to a Springfield hospital.

Both directions of Highway 101 were blocked for several hours.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
