Linn County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a Sweet Home man Saturday following an investigation into allegations that he was attempting to solicit sex through text message to someone who he thought was a 14-year-old-girl.

According to deputies, the investigation began after the person who received the messages reported him to police.

Deputies say the suspect, Spencer Chisum, 27, initially sent a text message to the person at random.

Chisum then began making repeated sexual solicitations after being told the person he was texting was 14-years-old.

According to the report, the suspect drove from Sweet Home to Lebanon to meet who he thought was the girl, but was greeted by Linn County Deputies instead.

Officials say Chisum had a small amount of marijuana which he admitted that he was planning to give to the girl.

He denied driving to Lebanon to meet the girl with the intention of engaging in sexual conduct, claiming he drove to meet with the girl so he could ‘scold’ the child for agreeing to meet with a man she did not know.

Chism has been charged with first degree online sexual corruption of a minor and luring a minor.
