A half-naked man broke into homes in southeast Portland and threatened the people inside with a knife, according to police.

Officers responded to the 8000 block of Southeast Martins Street in the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood at 6:38 a.m. Monday.

Tun Zaw said he walked into his bathroom to find the man sitting on his toilet.  Zaw said the suspect confronted him with a knife and demanded he place his cell phone and wallet on the kitchen counter.

Zaw said the suspect dropped his knife, and he picked it up, ordering the man to leave his home, which he did.

According to police, a second call then came in on the same street reporting nearly identical behavior.  Scott Bixel said his wife woke him up after hearing a strange sound at the back door.

"It was like prying, scratching type thing. And so I thought it might have been the cat, and so I just opened the door and next thing I know he’s coming busting through the door," said Bixel.

Bixel said he was able to push the man back out the door and lock it, then ran outside to chase after him, but police officers were already looking for the man.

Officers eventually arrested the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Allen Cain.

Cain was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, attempted burglary, second-degree kidnapping, coercion and menacing. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Tuesday.

Police said the victims in this case were not injured.
