SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A man who has been on the run from law enforcement and hiding out of state since 2001 was arrested during a traffic stop in Salem, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop at 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the 500 block of Lancaster Drive Northeast.

Deputy Matt Higgins talked to the driver and identified each passenger in the car. After returning to his patrol car, the deputy checked to see if anyone in the stopped car had a warrant for their arrest.

It turns out 45-year-old passenger Sean Saenz did.

Investigators said Saenz was wanted on a parole violation. The warrant had been active since April 2001.

Saenz admitted to hiding out of state to avoid arrest and said he had only been back in Oregon for two days, according to the sheriff's office.

Saenz was booked in the Marion County Jail without bail.

"Returning to your old stomping grounds is generally a positive experience, unless you have been on the run from law enforcement for the past 14 years," a sheriff's office release states.
