GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

The son of a daycare owner pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Damon Hoyer, 22, pleaded guilty in court Friday to charges of first-degree sex abuse, attempted sodomy and criminal mistreatment.

The investigation began in October 2014 when police responded to a rape report call at a Portland hospital.

A probable cause affidavit states the victim's mother picked her up from an unnamed in-home daycare, but the girl did not want to sit down in her car seat.

She said her "booty hurt," according to the affidavit, and then said, "Damon made it hurt."

Doctors determined her injuries were from sexual abuse.

Hoyer told detectives he was alone with several kids in the basement of the home, but said he did not do anything to the child other than buttoning her pants after she went to the bathroom, according to court documents.

A probable cause affidavit states Hoyer agreed to let DNA be collected from his body. Detectives determined it was a match for evidence collected from the child's body and underwear.

Along with 18 years in prison, Hoyer was ordered to register as a sex offender as part of his sentencing.
