PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A bike thief got away with not just an expensive bike but a unique one too.

It was a one-of-a-kind prototype that when sold could help those in need in Africa.

Shane Kalai Prescott walked out of church Sunday evening to see the back window of his car busted, and a bamboo bike he had in the back gone.

The bike was stolen along the corner of Southwest 10th and Taylor. Just the frame alone is worth fifteen hundred dollars.

Shane had been working for a humanitarian group in Zambia, Africa called Zambikes, that build these one-of-a-kind bikes, but they also do more than that.

“They make medical carts that help people in rural area get to a hospital easier and quicker,” says Prescott.

The money he was hoping to get from the sale of these bikes would be helping those in need, in poor parts of the country. The one he had was the only Zambike prototype in Portland.

Shane and his friends have been keeping a lookout all over Craigslist to see if the person who stole it, is already trying to sell it online.
