Mexico, (KPTV) -

An Oregon man is being held in a Mexican prison despite being found innocent by a local judge.

Troy Bachmann has been running a produce business called Fancy Fresh Farms in Mexico for the past 20 years.

Mexican authorities arrested Bachmann in May after his bookkeeper told police that he was refusing to pay his employees and was planning to flee the country.

Bachmann has since then been found innocent, but he is still being held in jail pending a possible appeal.

Bachmann spoke about this currently living conditions inside the prison.

“It’s excruciating,” he said on the phone. “It’s like it’s out of a mad max movie.”

Bachmann said the prisons are cramped, with 80 people to one bathroom and cells so small their feet are pushed up against the wall.

“Everybody eats off the floor,” he said. “Everybody eats this garbage they feed the people here, which looks like donated food. I feed my dogs better than that.”

Bachmann’s family is asking for help from the US Embassy in Mexico and congressional leaders. But it could be as much as three months before he can be released.
