PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officers responding to an alarm at a medical marijuana dispensary found a man using a hammer to try to break into the building, according to police.

Officers arrived at the Progressive Collective Dispensary on the 9800 block of East Burnside Street at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday.

After they spotted the suspect hitting the window with a hammer, police said he ran away westbound across the lanes of Interstate 205.

Officers watched from the overpass above the highway and called for additional units to respond to the scene.

Several officers, including K-9 team Officer Trent Wiest and his partner Hunter, searched the area and located the suspect hiding in a yard in a neighborhood.

The suspect, 22-year-old Shaquille Laray Brown, was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of second-degree attempted burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and interfering with a peace officer.

Brown is scheduled to be arraigned in court Wednesday.
