VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A crash involving a semi hauling solar panels closed the northbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to eastbound SR-14 on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 9:46 a.m.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported the truck was carrying nearly 80,000 pounds of solar panels. Washington State Patrol later corrected that information to say the combined weight of the vehicle and cargo was 80,000 pounds.

The panels had to be off-loaded before the truck could be removed.

By 12:30 p.m., the off-ramp had reopened.

Traffic on northbound I-5 was backing up into Portland during the closure, according to WSDOT. Drivers were advised to use an alternate route or expect delays.

WSP reported the driver, Getachew Ayalneh, 36, of Portland, was going too fast for the conditions, which caused the crash. Ayalneh was taken to the hospital for treatment. No other vehicles were involved.
