Police: Man exposing himself at SE Portland businesses

Posted: Updated:

There have been several reports of a young man exposing himself to women at Southeast Portland businesses.

The Portland Police Bureau said the most recent report was on Nov. 6, at a business on Southeast 17th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard.

According to police, the suspect was inside the store browsing and asked the female employee for help. The employee told police she had turned around to check a price and when she turned back, the man was masturbating.

The employee told police that she ordered the man to leave the store and that he was last seen walking westbound on Hawthorne.

Police said a similar report happened in early October from an employee at a business at Southeast 47th Avenue and Belmont Street and at shops along Southeast 13th Avenue in Sellwood.

"It's terrifying. I mean, there are children everywhere here, and obviously I as a young female don't want to have someone expose themselves," said Portland resident Kimberlyn Truitt. "It's a scary situation to be in, and you don't know if its going to lead to something else."

Portland resident Ashley Pinkerton added, "You know, people walk around with their children, or alone, or with loved ones, and it's scary to think if someone is going to go that far, what's their next step?"

The suspect is described as an African American in his late-teens or early 20s, 5'10", and 130 pounds. He may have tattoos on his face or neck and on his hands.

If you have any information about these incidents, please contact the Police Non-Emergency Line at (503) 823-3333.

Anyone who sees this type of behavior is asked to call 911 immediately.
