TEPIC, MEXICO (KPTV) -

An Oregon man is still stuck in a Mexican prison in Tepic despite being found innocent, and now his family is urging government officials to take action.

Tory Bachmann was arrested in Mexico this past May on agricultural fraud charges. A judge recently found him innocent of all accusations, yet he is still being held in prison pending a possible appeal.

Bachmann owns a local produce business in Mexico. He said his Mexican employees emptied his bank accounts and accused him of not paying them. He was later arrested by authorities.

Bachmann’s family said Oregon’s confessional delegation is doing essentially nothing to help.

Bachmann spoke in a phone interview about the living conditions in the prison.

“It’s excruciating. It’s like it’s out of a Mad Max movie,” he said.

Bachmann said the conditions resemble those in a concentration camp. The prison is holding 3,000 inmates, but is only designed to hold 600.

“Everybody eats off the floor,” Bachmann said. “Everybody eats this garbage that they feed the people here, which looks like donated food. I feed my dogs better than that.”

Bachmann served in the US Army and said he has essentially been kidnapped in Mexico and has been forgotten by his country.

“What kind of rights do I have? The American consulate hasn’t done anything on my behalf to (create) pressure to release me. I mean, nobody has, as far as I know,”

According to Bachmann, officials can basically take anyone off the street and imprison them. He adds that the legal process can take anywhere from six months to a year and a half.

Representatives from Oregon senator Ron Wyden’s office say they are working to get Bachmann home, but it will take time to resolve the case.
