Multnomah Co. Commissioners pass ordinance on tobacco retail licensing

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Multnomah County businesses will soon have to pay for licenses if they want to sell any type of tobacco.

On Thursday, County Commissioners unanimously passed the ordinance.

The ordinance is an effort to help stop kids from buying tobacco. This push comes after a recent U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration study found Multnomah County has the highest illegal sales of tobacco to minors.

The licensing requirement also applies to vaping products that contain nicotine.
