City leaders talk gun violence after another Portland shooting

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Violence is a growing problem in Portland. Several shootings have happened this weekend, including one on Friday morning where two people were taken to the hospital.

Violence is Portland just happened to be the topic of the City Club of Portland's Friday Forum. It was moderated by Antoinette Edwards, Director of Portland's Youth Violence Prevention Program.

Gun violence hit close to home for Edwards in May when her teenage grandson, Turon Walker, was arrested for a shooting at Last Thursday that injured three people. Walker is awaiting trial and Edwards wants people to know that no one is immune.

“We’re all connected and no one is spared,” said Edwards. “That’s why this is so urgent and an opportunity we need to take advantage of today.  And honoring the hope for him and so many others.”

Edwards wants more witnesses to feel empowered and safe speaking out and for all of us to do more to prevent violence.

“We don’t give up hope. We don’t give up hope.”
